Coyote Hole
Bushcraft…We would like to thank everyone who came to the Water Procurement class on Saturday at Wildlife Prairie Park. We covered a lot of information on finding and processing potable water in a survival situation. Students even got to see a “coyote well” at work filling up with ground water. Excellent group. Excellent class. Hope to see everyone at the next one.
Wicking Gravity Filter
This photo from Saturday’s Water Procurement class takes a bit of explanation. The glass jar on top of the flower pot was filled with muddy, yucky water. Then a cotton sock was used to wick the liquid down into the other jar where the water came out much clearer. The cotton fiber acted as an efficient filter for turbidity (junk in the water). The flower pot was used to explain how terra cotta can also be used in a pinch to filter water. Water will leach through certain porous materials like clay pots in the same manner that ground water leaches around and through shale and limestone. Fun stuff!
